Results and Desired Outcomes
Our work promotes economic security and stability for young people and families, and we have played an instrumental role in expanding economic supports and eliminating barriers to access:
- CSSP works closely with national partners in the Automatic Benefit for Children Coalition to advance a permanent child allowance, and played a critical role in the temporary expansion of the CTC in 2021 that reached over 62 million children and lifted 5.3 million people out of poverty.
- CSSP works to eliminate work reporting requirements and other policies that restrict access to economic supports for young people and families. Our research on the racist roots of work requirements has galvanized partners at the national, state, and local level to eliminate these and other barriers to critical benefits.
How We Do It
In partnership with young people, caregivers, and state and national partners:
We co-develop and advance policy ideas that provide direct cash to young people and families—from the Child Tax Credit to a guaranteed income for young adults to paid leave and other caregiving supports.
We redress structural barriers that systematically disadvantage Black, Brown, Indigenous, and other historically marginalized groups, to ensure all families in the United States can access basic economic supports and meet their needs.
We build the capacity of young people and caregivers and nurture partnerships to advance policies at the local, state, and national level.
We shift the narrative around young people and families to recognize that all people deserve to be supported with dignity and respect, so that they can achieve the goals they set for themselves.
