Results and Desired Outcomes
It is our goal to advance policies that contribute to a continuum of supports, services, and resources in communities so that families have supports that meets their needs outside of intervening systems. Alongside this effort, we also work to ensure that families involved in child welfare systems are supported and their rights and humanity are respected at all times.
How We Do It
Drawing on a deep understanding of public policies and systems and how they work—in addition to our close partnerships with parents, youth, systems leaders and community organizations—we work to:
Identify, develop, and advance innovative policy solutions that promote keeping families together as well as the health and well-being of children and families in their communities and outside of systems. Our policy solutions also support the community’s capacity to serve families who are involved in the child welfare system in ways that are culturally-responsive and affirming.
Build capacity and provide direct technical assistance to systems to develop and implement anti-racist policy and practice change.
Our work is grounded in learning from and partnering closely with parents and youth because policies work better when they are designed together with the families they are intended to serve. Further, our work is shaped by our close partnerships with communities and system leaders, which enables us to connect policy to practice, taking lessons from developments at the local level to advance policies that will work well for families at the national level, and supporting implementation of federal policy at the local level.
