Promise Neighborhoods Training and Technical Assistance

We support Promise Neighborhoods leaders to achieve equitable results for children and families

What We Work For

In partnership with Promise Neighborhoods leaders, we work to strengthen a cradle-to-career approach to ensure the success of all children and youth.

Our training and technical assistance with Promise Neighborhoods is focused on leadership development and capacity building to help communities achieve their desired results.

How We Do It

Our work has included providing one-on-one support to federal grantees, structured in-person and virtual workshops, trainings, web-based information and resources, and written products and tools. We recently provided a Results Count™ leadership development program to two cohorts of Promise Neighborhoods leaders in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education, the Urban Institute, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Our current and ongoing work with Promise Neighborhoods grantees is designed to:

  • Build a culture of results.
  • Develop system leaders.
  • Engage resident and community leaders to develop solutions.

We believe that all children growing up in Promise Neighborhoods should have access to great schools and strong family and community support systems that will prepare them to attain an excellent education and successfully transition to college and a career.

Promise Neighborhoods is a federal place-based initiative striving to turn neighborhoods of concentrated poverty into neighborhoods of opportunity for children and families. A Promise Neighborhood partners with schools and community organizations to ensure that all children have access to a continuum of solutions, or a pipeline, that support them from cradle-to-career. The Promise Neighborhoods program is designed around a Results Framework with ten results that each community aims to achieve, from children being ready for kindergarten to families and community members supporting learning in Promise Neighborhoods schools.

In partnership with the Urban Institute, under a contract with the US Department of Education, CSSP provides technical assistance to Promise Neighborhoods grantees. The technical assistance includes delivering leadership development using The Annie E Casey Foundation’s Results Count™ approach.

We deliver technical assistance through one-on-one work with specific grantees, structured in-person and virtual workshops, trainings, web-based resources, and written products and tools—with an eye to aligning this work with the efforts of the other national partners that support Promise Neighborhoods. All activities and products are designed to address the most pressing needs of current cohort of implementation grantees, but should also prove useful to all former grantees and others working to put a Promise Neighborhoods approach into place.

CSSP is a founding member of the Promise Neighborhoods Institute at PolicyLink.
